St. Bernard Catholic School
St. Bernard Afterschool Care will operate 2:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., when school is in session. Our services are strictly After School Care, not full childcare.
PHILOSOPHY: Saint Bernard Afterschool Care (ASC) is a ministry that continues to nurture the Christian values and attitudes of our children. The ASC staff will strive to be appropriate role models who assist the Saint Bernard children in character development. Self-discipline and self-esteem, along with respect of self and property, are important values that will be addressed. ASC seeks to complement the job of the home, the school, and the parish community by joining this partnership in support of our children.
MISSION STATEMENT: After School Care (ASC) is here to provide the children of St. Bernard’s School (Preschool through 6th) with a safe environment. It is designed for children whose parents work outside the home. We provide opportunities for the children to develop friendships, and to grow spiritually, physically, and mentally. Most of all, it is of vital importance that the children feel comfortable and have a great time in an organized and secure atmosphere.

Parent/Student Handbook
St. Bernard Catholic School
At Saint Bernard School, we understand the importance of engaging parent(s)/legal guardian(s) and families in the education of the students. Quality education demands a covenant between all of the members of the community including the parent(s)/legal guardian(s), teachers, administrators, students and parishioners. We must renew our commitment to education and seek the best strategies available to prepare our students for life in the Twenty-first Century. Research shows students whose parents are involved with the educational process always do better in school. Education begins at home and does not stop when the school bell rings at the end of the day; families play a vital role in ensuring the highest student achievement.
This handbook contains important information necessary for students and parent(s)/legal guardian(s) to meet their obligations as we strive to create a positive environment designed to develop the students educationally, emotionally, spiritually, and morally. I urge each parent/legal guardian and student to read, know, and abide by the policies and procedures contained in the St. Bernard School Handbook.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS
The Archdiocese of Louisville is committed to ensuring that children & youth who participate in church-sponsored activities can do so in the safest & most secure setting possible. Volunteers include those who coach, assist with teams, help in the school parking lot or cafeteria, work VBS, serve as a catechist or have any other role that includes contact with children at St. Bernard.
In an effort to fulfill this commitment, all employees and volunteers in regular contact with minors are required to participate in a Safe Environment Training (SET) & have a background check.
- Trainings are offered throughout the Archdiocese on a monthly basis.
- No advance registration is necessary.
- No one under the age of 16 will be admitted to the training; this includes infants.
- For the most up to date training schedule, visit: www.archlou.org
The new Archdiocese policy, effective January 2022, is that all employees and volunteers who have regular contact with minors must update their Safe Environment Training every 5 years. Anyone who attended SET prior to 2018 will need to attend an updated in-person or online training before the end of 2022.
We are pleased to be able to offer an online alternative for the required refresher training. Please click the button below for more information.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Your certificate will be automatically submitted when you complete the course – no need to send any paperwork to the office!
- The online refresher course is ONLY for those who have attended an in-person training in the past and simply need to renew their training. If this is your first time, you must attend an in-person training to receive valid credit. If you sign into the online refresher course training as a member/employee of another parish, you must submit your certificate to the St. Bernard Office or we will not have it on file.
- If you do not want to do the online refresher course, you can attend an upcoming in-person training and submit your certificate to the St. Bernard Office.

Below is the link to the school kits. Once you click on the link, please select your student’s class to see the kit. Kits are available until July 13th and will be shipped to the school. Kits are available after this date, but they will be shipped to home, not to school. Some of the items teachers have requested are not available in the kit. These items can be found under the “additional information” section of each class kit. Every student is required to have headphones with a microphone. (Headphones are not included in the kit). You may purchase headphones on your own, through the school kits website, or from the school for $10. If you chose to purchase them through the school, a form will be sent out before school starts to place your order. It is not required to purchase the school kits-you may purchase the items that are listed in the kits on your own if you wish to do so.
